The Flandrien feeling

The Flandrien feeling

with No Comments

When I looked at the weather forecast for the next day, I saw the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute predicted heavy rainfall. When I read the warning for strong wind, I knew I was going to ride the next day.

The sky was fifty shades of grey and the rain was pouring down. I was riding on the drops and tucked in low on the bars to prevent myself from being blown off the road. It felt like I was participating in one of the spring classics. That feeling was reinforced when I had to wait for a closed level crossing.

Getting outside in this weather for fun may seem crazy, but I always enjoy it. The worse the conditions get the better I ride. And frankly: aren’t it the rides that you rode in heroic weather conditions that you remember best?
